What is powder coating?
Powder coating is a dry coating process in which a powdered material is electrostatically applied to an object to be coated and then cured in an oven. This creates a uniform, durable, and high-quality surface coating.
Which materials can be powder coated?
Powder coating is primarily applied to metals such as steel, aluminum, and galvanized iron. There are also special methods and powder types that allow for coating materials such as glass, ceramics, and certain plastics.
How is the powder applied?
The powder is applied using a coating gun that electrostatically charges the powder. The charged powder particles are then sprayed onto the grounded workpiece and adhere firmly to the surface due to electrostatic attraction.
How is the powder coating cured?
After application, the workpiece is placed in an oven, where it is exposed to temperatures between 160°C and 200°C. The powder particles fuse and harden into a smooth layer.
What problems can occur during coating and how can they be avoided?
The most common problems include uneven coatings, bubbles, and orange peel. These can be avoided by properly preparing the surface, correctly dosing the powder, and strictly adhering to the curing times and temperatures. Please refer to our technical data sheets for details
