Mirror chrome effect metallic polyurethane powder coating

Smooth and shiny (visually)

The special color can give surfaces a chromated appearance and is a decorative interior powder. The chrome-effect powder coating glazes can also serve as a primer to achieve the "candy effect."

Notice

The chrome effect powder is not a replacement for electroplated chrome plating, but merely a cost-effective alternative! If you only want to achieve the chrome effect and the coated object will be used frequently, you should use a clear coat! The pure chrome surface is very sensitive. The clear coat changes the color, and the mirror-chrome effect takes on a "veil" and becomes a subtle silver hue. The intensity of the veil, or chrome shine, depends on the thickness of the clear coat. For the perfect shine – our clear coat powder ! Need a color sample? Order here!

Chrome plating in addition to powder coating

The basic premise is that chrome plating, achieved through electroplating baths, is the method for obtaining surfaces with the best metallic properties and the highest durability. The metal is actually deposited electrolytically. Therefore, we cannot hide the fact that many surfaces "sold" as chrome-plated are the result of other treatments, such as vacuum plating.

The chrome plating process allows you to apply a thin layer of high-purity metal that adheres perfectly to the original (metallic) surface. Disadvantages include cost, size limitations (currently, it's almost impossible to find someone who won't mass-produce chrome plating on objects larger than 50 cm), and environmental concerns (bathrooms contain heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium).

Although the chrome powder coating does not produce the perfect results as real chrome plating, the chrome effect is very realistic and, above all, easy to apply and a flexible solution.

Application

When processing metallic powder coatings, the electrostatic (corona) process is recommended; metallic powder coatings must be tested for their suitability for tribo application.

Technical data sheets can be downloaded as PDF files under FAQ.

Please note the processing instructions for metallic powder coatings.

Pretreatment

Grease, oil, scale and oxidation products must be removed from the surface before coating.

For special requirements, additional pretreatment types may be required. Please refer to the technical data sheets.

Recommendation for outdoor use

If the parts to be coated are intended for outdoor use, we recommend first coating the grease- and solvent-free surface with our primer powder . After baking, the desired RAL color is applied. This so-called two-coat process particularly increases the weather resistance of your workpieces for outdoor use. You can also protect the surface with a clear coat , which, if desired, allows you to adjust the gloss level and color effect.

Recommended burn-in time

At 180 °C object temperature 20 min.

Theoretical yield

At 100 μm layer thickness 8.5 m²/kg

Optimal layer thickness

- with a single coating 80 - 100 µm

- with a double coating 140 - 180 µm
