RAL 7016 is currently the most requested shade in garden and metalwork — from garden fences, privacy screens and gates to carports and patio covers, as well as modern railings and letterbox units. Scratches here often occur from lawn mowing, tools or vehicles knocking against the surface, and during installation and transport.

Quick guide

Clean and degrease the surface, roughen with sandpaper for deeper damage, shake the pen vigorously and apply the RAL 7016 paint in two thin coats with a 10-minute drying interval in between. Frequently asked questions

Is RAL 7016 the same as RAL 7021 Black Grey?

No. RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey has a slight blue undertone and is by far the most commonly used shade for fences and gates. RAL 7021 Black Grey looks more neutral and slightly darker. Side by side, the two shades are clearly distinguishable, though from a distance or in photos they're easily confused. This touch-up pen is mixed exclusively for RAL 7016.

Why is anthracite usually finished in matt?

Matt surfaces disguise fine scratches, dust and fingerprints noticeably better than gloss, reducing maintenance effort. Matt has also become the standard look for modern fence and gate systems in recent years. Gloss RAL 7016 is less common, typically found on older components or where a high-gloss look was specifically chosen.

Can I use this to touch up my fence or gate without recoating it entirely?

Yes, that's exactly what the touch-up pen is designed for. For localised scratches and chips on fence panels, gate posts or railings, a local touch-up is usually sufficient. For extensive damage, or where several components are affected evenly, full recoating is generally the better option.

How much surface area does one pen cover?

With 12 ml of content and two applied coats, one pen covers roughly 500 to 600 cm² — about the size of an A4 sheet. In practice, a touch-up pen is used for spot repairs rather than full coverage, so one pen is usually enough for numerous small scratches and stone chips across several components.
