Ready-mixed touch-up pen in RAL 9005 Jet Black, available in matt or gloss. For touching up scratches, chips and small paint damage on powder-coated and painted surfaces. No mixing required, ready to use straight away.

The black touch-up pen is one of the most requested RAL shades overall and works well beyond powder-coated surfaces too, including wheel rims, bike frames, metal fencing and painted furniture.

How do I use a touch-up pen correctly?

1. Clean the area with water and soap, let it dry
2. Degrease with alcohol or a degreaser, let it dry again
3. For deeper damage: sand lightly with fine sandpaper, remove any rust completely, wipe off dust and rust particles with alcohol
4. Shake the pen firmly before use until the mixing ball rattles
5. Apply the paint (brush for larger areas, tip for spots), apply twice with 10 minutes drying time in between
6. Leave to cure for at least 24 hours before polishing or further work

Which is better, a touch-up pen or spray paint?

It depends on the size of the damage. A touch-up pen is best for localised damage such as scratches and stone chips, where a precise, controlled amount of paint is needed. Spray paint covers larger, continuous areas more evenly, but on small spots it creates unnecessary overspray and requires masking the surrounding area. For the classic repair on a fence, gate or fitting, the touch-up pen is the more practical choice.

How long does a touch-up pen need to dry?

Touch dry after about 10 minutes, fully cured after 24 hours. The actual time depends on coat thickness, temperature and humidity. Allow more time in cooler temperatures or high humidity. Always wait the full 24 hours before polishing or further work.

How good is the colour match with touch-up pens?

For a quick fix that is not noticeable from normal viewing distance, they are a reliable and fast solution. Under very close inspection, even the best-matching shade can differ slightly from the original. That comes down to the nature of manual application, not the quality of the paint.

Can you paint over powder coating?

Yes. The touch-up pen bonds to already powder-coated surfaces and can be applied directly for spot repairs. For larger or deeper damage, lightly sanding the area first improves adhesion. The touch-up pen is not intended for full recoating, that requires regular powder coating.
